The Dream Logic Paradox

You know how when you wake from a dream everything in that dream made perfect sense? And how when you wake and you review the dream it’s revealed that it didn’t make sense at all? What if this is the state of life that we live in daily?

The Bizarre Logic of the Dream

In our dreams we are Privy to some subset of knowledge and some subset of rules and given those conditions sense can be made. Since enough can be made to almost forcibly drive us and other characters in the dream towards seemingly inevitable action. When are waking mind analyzes this, at least a fair waking mind, we can empathize with the situation the characters were in. Of course it made sense that you needed to eat the bird’s nest along with the egg that you plucked from it, it’s only logical. Of course you needed to stack all of the pillows in your room and from all over the house in just the right state before you were allowed to to get into bed and go to sleep.

The Limits of Waking Logic

Yet we the waking also have a limited perspective if we’re honest. Anyone who knows everything please feel free to leave a comment below I would love to Pick your brain until the end of time So if we also have a limited perspective who’s to say that our perspective is so infallible as to make the judgment that the dream logic was incorrect? Yes the dream logic feels provably false To us but that’s only because we have the gift of higher perspective. Within the dream we make similar judgments of those with lesser perspective smaller perspective. Judgment is made possible by comparison, without comparison there can be no judgment, without judgment there can be no right and wrong, for judgment is the scalpel which separates life from life and sorts which is which and which is best.

Moving from Dream to Dream: History as Perspective

The fact that our fair waking minds can assess the logic of the dream and both find it sensible for It’s Be knighted Inhabitants as well as nonsensical for us suggests that our perspective is not only larger but encompasses the dream perspective as a subset of it. Those Who have studied history might resonate with this – To the civilized pre civilization was a sort of dream. To the enlightenment age, the pre-enlightenment ages were a sort of dream. To the postmodernist, modernism was a sort of dream. We simply move from dream to dream. The past itself is a sort of dream as well. We move some best guests to best guess. The future holds infinite malleability for what is considered fact. Therefore I think we must be very careful in what we mean or think we mean when we say the word: fact.

The Tyranny of “Fact”

We often use the word fact as if it is something that a human being, a limited being, can actually possess let alone understand let alone be the arbiter of. Even the top among their field cannot possess such certainty, for if they could they should stop working there was nothing left to discover, but they worked to discover more yet. We use the word fact to divide us into the stupid and the smart the right and the wrong the villain and the hero. We find fault in our ancestors the same way we find fault in our dream selves.

Ancestors as Dream Selves

Getting angry at our ancestors is a lot like getting angry at our dream selves. It made sense to them and if we’re honest it makes sense to us that it made sense to them given their limited perspective.

The Verdict on Faulty Logic

If you have ever had one of these dreams where you woke and found yourself to have fallen prey to faulty logic faulty dream logic, do you consider yourself an invalid human being incapable of logic, undeserving of life or of voice because you had fallen prey to that faulty dream logic?

The Creative Power of the “Dream”

If we only respect those people who are never wrong then we create a sort of condition much like the one in the dream which drives us to make foolish decisions to eat that bird’s nest along with the egg from it. We create a pressure to never be wrong which means we created pressure to contain to make it our job to consume all possible knowledge contain and maintain that knowledge and never allow that knowledge to change because if that knowledge were to change then we would have been wrong at some point. What if there is great value in the dream logic? Precisibly because it forces us to inhabit a state where our normal set of knowledge rules and understanding of how things work is different. What is this is how we create new knowledge? By considering the foolish, the absurd, the dream?
